With Republicans in the White House for 20 of the 28 years covered by this graph, we can see the effects on income: more goes to the richest one percent of Americans. Less goes to the rest of the country. Republicans think this doesn't matter.

Pocahontas, Humboldt, Calhoun, Webster Form New District
For the 2012 election we will be part of new legislative and Congressional Districts. It looks like Christie Vilsack will run for Congress against Steve King in the new 4th District. The tiny inset map above shows the district outlines. We are at the center of it.
We will have a new state senator, Daryl Beall of Fort Dodge. Our district is the yelllow one in the map above. For now we appear to have two state representatives: David Tjepkes of Gowrie and Tom Shaw of Laurens, both Republicans. Who wants to run for that seat in 2012? You will have Christie Vilsack (I assume) and President Obama on the ticket with you.

Kibbie Announces Retirement at Pocahontas Town Forum
Senator Kibbie told a town forum in
Pocahontas that he will not run for re-election in 2012. Kibbie is
President of the Iowa Senate. He has represented Pocahontas County
since the redistricting that followed the 2000 census.
